What
lane and road will He take me on now?
The
Future
Now,
two years later I am finishing my masters degree. Much more
came from the Paperless Classroom which you can read about in “Our
Story” which has made my masters degree even more
worthwhile. And with my masters almost behind me I can tell my
technical journey is not over. With all my wonderful classes
and with the inspiration of my two mentors, Andrea Peach and
David Forman I am now look forward to the next chapter in my
career.
I
searched daily for a job for a year in Technology Education on
websites for public school to all the way to universities. I
sent in countless applications in the midst of a state hiring
freeze and the war with Iraq. I prayed daily for an
opportunity. I landed an interview with a company in
Louisville that created on-line classes for universities. I
did not get the job. I was disappointed and I was beginning to
think I was meant to stay in my Language Arts position where I
tried to integrate technology as much as possible. I tried to
be patient in the midst of leading my students in writing
portfolios I beginning to feel like hope was gone.
Then
I got a call from Shelby County schools for an elementary
technology teacher position. I thought to myself I never
thought I would teach such young students. I had no real
training to teach little kids. I barely remembered how
elementary school worked. I decided I would go anyway. I
prayed for an opportunity and landed an interview so I had to
give it a try. After all, God knows best. While I was there
she asked if I minded to also interview for a district
resource teacher position too. I did the two interviews in the
same day. And a week later I went to a second interview. And
finally a few days later I had to make a decision between the
two jobs. I was unsure what to do. But I finally accepted the
job as district Technology Resource teacher for Shelby
County Schools.
My
career search has only strengthen my faith in God and ensured
me that I am where He wants me to be. I am looking forward to
using the talents He has given me along with the skills that I
learned at Georgetown in the next chapter in my life. And next
time I will be more willing to listen to good advice like I
got a KTLC to go back to Georgetown and to go to interviews or
other opportunities even when I am uncertain. My
Master's Degree Journey has been one of learning,
finding my new calling and making lifetime friends. Now I will
travel on to whatever comes at the next stop and try to enjoy
the view while I can.
